I finished last year off with a visit to Venice. It’s a wonderful city and great for photography. While there they had the highest tide for 50 years, causing the biggest flood the city has seen for the same amount of time. St Mark’s square, the lowest point in Venice, gets Acqua Alta at anything over a tide of 90cm. On 12th November Venice saw tides of 187cm. Along with the extremely high tide there was also some strong winds and rain. These together caused some devastating damage to Venice, with 90% of it under water. All shops, restaurants and homes were flooded. Locals and tourists were left stranded. The flooding was really that bad.
Earlier that day, before the really high tide hit, I was out at St Mark’s Square taking some images. I’ve decided to use one of these images as my “The Limited Ten” this month.
The square was starting to flood and it was too early for many people to be about, a rare opportunity to see this part of Venice so empty.
Venice for me is one of the most unique and interesting places to photograph. I’m always looking forward to my next visit to this Italian City. Having been a few times i have many images from here, yet this is certainly one of my favourites.
The image will be printed on Giclee Fotospeed NST Bright White paper and mounted on a white fine art window mount. The print run will be limited to 10 only and printed 8”x8” (12″x12″ including mount). The price will be £50 including delivery to the UK (£19.95 worldwide shipping fee).
UK customers also have the option to have the image framed in a sleek custom made black frame. The cost of the print, mount and frame delivered will be £90.
